Amazon has expanded access to its healthcare-focused assistant Health AI, bringing the tool to its main website and mobile app. Previously available only through the One Medical app, the rollout aims to make AI-driven health guidance accessible to a wider audience.
Health AI is designed to assist users with everyday healthcare needs. The assistant can answer health-related questions, interpret medical records, help renew prescriptions, and assist with booking doctor appointments. The system can also respond to general health queries without requiring access to personal medical data.
However, when users choose to share their medical information, Health AI can function as a more personalised health assistant. With consent, the tool can access lab results, diagnoses, medications, and clinical notes through the Health Information Exchange, a nationwide system used by healthcare providers to securely share patient records. This allows the assistant to explain test results, interpret diagnoses, and provide tailored guidance on symptoms or medications.
If further medical attention is required, Health AI can connect users to doctors through Amazon’s primary care provider, One Medical. Consultations can be conducted through messaging, video calls, or in-person appointments depending on user preference.
Users do not need to be Prime subscribers or One Medical members to use the AI assistant. However, Amazon Prime members in the United States receive additional benefits. Eligible Prime users can access up to five free direct-message consultations with One Medical providers for more than 30 common conditions, including cold and flu, allergies, acid reflux, urinary tract infections, hair loss, and certain skin issues. For other users, consultations through One Medical’s pay-per-visit option cost $29 per visit.
The launch comes amid growing discussions about the use of AI in healthcare and the handling of sensitive patient data. Amazon stated that Health AI models are trained using abstracted patterns rather than identifiable patient information. The company also emphasised that all interactions occur within a HIPAA-compliant environment, with encryption and strict access controls to protect user data.
By integrating Health AI into its core platforms, Amazon is positioning itself to play a larger role in digital healthcare while offering users a more accessible and technology-driven way to manage their health.
