Duracell has launched a new range of child-safe lithium coin batteries in India, designed to reduce the risk of accidental ingestion among children. The batteries, available in CR2032, CR2025, and CR2016 sizes, now come with a non-toxic bitter coating and child-resistant packaging, combining safety with trusted performance.
Small, shiny coin batteries are often found in everyday gadgets like remotes, wearables, and key fobs-making them easily accessible to young children. Duracell’s new innovation aims to prevent dangerous swallowing incidents through a dual safety system. The bitter coating activates upon contact with saliva, discouraging ingestion, while tamper-proof blister packs require scissors to open, making it harder for children to access.
Both safety features are clearly marked on the packaging with warning labels and icons to guide parents. Duracell now offers two product variants: one with child-resistant packaging and another that adds the bitter coating for extra protection.
“Child safety is at the heart of this launch,” said Sunil Gadgil, GM of Duracell India. “As household use of lithium coin batteries increases, so does the need for stronger preventive measures.”
Duracell’s efforts are backed by its partnership with the European Academy of Paediatrics, supporting awareness campaigns and education for parents and healthcare providers.
Adding her voice, tennis star Sania Mirza supports the brand’s #BunnyKids campaign, urging parents to stay informed and proactive.
The new range is now available exclusively on Amazon India, setting new safety standards in India’s battery market.
