Elon Musk to revive Vine in an ‘AI Form’ under X

Elon Musk has announced that Vine, the once-popular short-form video app, will be making a comeback-this time reimagined in an “AI form.” The announcement was made via a brief post on X (formerly Twitter), though specific details about the platform’s reboot remain under wraps.

Vine, originally launched by Twitter in January 2013, allowed users to share looping video clips capped at six seconds, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon. It played a key role in launching the careers of many digital creators before being shut down in 2017.

Now, nearly a decade later, Musk appears set to revive Vine through AI integration, possibly capitalising on the synergy between short-form content and generative AI tools, which are often optimised for producing concise, creative outputs.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has previously teased Vine’s return, notably after his acquisition of Twitter in 2022. At the time, he conducted a poll on the platform asking users if they’d like to see Vine revived-an overwhelming majority voted yes.

According to industry observers, an AI-powered version of Vine could cater to the fast-growing demand for short-form, auto-generated content across platforms.

X has not yet released further technical or launch details, and did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.

With this announcement, Musk aims to inject fresh innovation into the creator economy while tapping into Vine’s nostalgic appeal- now updated for the AI era.
