Google has introduced third-party app integrations to AI Mode, enabling users in the US to complete everyday tasks directly from its conversational search experience. The new feature initially supports Instacart, Canva and YouTube Music, with more integrations expected in the future.
The update transforms AI Mode from a search assistant into a task-oriented platform, allowing users to connect supported apps and perform actions using natural language prompts without switching between multiple services.
For grocery shopping, users can link their Instacart account and ask AI Mode to create shopping lists based on specific occasions or recipes. The AI automatically adds the required items to the user’s Instacart cart, with checkout completed through the app or website.
The integration with Canva enables users to generate design ideas and discover templates for presentations, social media posts, flyers and other creative projects directly within AI Mode.
Meanwhile, YouTube Music users can create and save playlists simply by describing the mood, occasion or genre they want, making music discovery more conversational.
The rollout builds on Google’s broader AI strategy of connecting its products with external services. Earlier this year, similar app integrations were introduced in the Gemini app, supporting platforms such as Canva, Instacart, OpenTable and Spark.
Since launching in early 2025, AI Mode has steadily added new capabilities, including personalised responses using Gmail and Google Photos, local product availability checks and enhanced web comparison tools.
With connected apps now integrated into AI Mode, Google is positioning its conversational search experience as a productivity hub, bringing it closer to AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude that already support third-party integrations.
