Google Expands Gemini in Chrome to India with Multilingual AI Support

Google has expanded the integration of its AI assistant Gemini within Google Chrome to new markets, including India, Canada, and New Zealand, making the tool more accessible to users across these regions. The rollout allows users to interact with Gemini directly inside Chrome through a desktop sidebar, enabling a more seamless AI-powered browsing experience.

With this integration, users can ask Gemini questions about the content visible on their screen, summarise web pages, or generate quizzes to better understand information. The tool can also work across multiple tabs simultaneously, helping users compare products while shopping online or evaluate travel options across different websites.

A key highlight of the expansion is multilingual support for several Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, in addition to English. This move aims to make AI tools more accessible for India’s diverse user base.

Gemini can also connect with multiple Google services such as Gmail, Google Maps, Google Calendar, and YouTube, allowing users to perform tasks without leaving the browser. For example, users can compose emails, schedule meetings, or get a daily briefing based on their calendar directly through the Chrome sidebar. The assistant can also summarise YouTube videos and highlight key points with timestamps.

Additionally, Gemini supports Google’s generative AI tool Nano Banana 2, which enables users to transform images. For instance, users can upload a photo of a room and visualise how furniture would look in the space while shopping online.

Alongside the desktop rollout, Gemini integration for Chrome is also being introduced for iOS users in India, where the feature will appear through the page tools icon in the browser’s address bar.
