Instagram has introduced a new feature exclusively for Teen Accounts, allowing users to customize their app icon with six distinct visual themes – including fire, floral, chrome, cosmic, and slime.
Developed in collaboration with illustrator Carlos Oliveras Colom (@doncarrrlos) and Instagram’s in-house design team, the update brings a fun and expressive element to the app experience. It reflects the platform’s focus on creativity, personalization, and youth-centric engagement, giving teens greater ownership over how their app looks and feels.
“I’m honored that I got trusted to bring some fun to life,” said Colom. “If I was a teen, I’d change that icon every day – to express what I’m feeling or set the vibe for the day.”
To access the feature, Teen Account users can tap the Instagram logo at the top of their home screen and choose from the available icon options.
The customization update is part of Instagram’s broader effort to empower young users with tools that promote expression and control while maintaining a safe and positive digital environment.
According to Instagram, the feature aims to help teens “focus on what matters most – their friends, the content they care about, and having control over their experience.”
This rollout aligns with Meta’s ongoing initiatives to build creative autonomy for younger audiences across its platforms, ensuring fun, flexibility, and safety go hand in hand.
