Instagram to Shut Down Content Notes Feature

Instagram has announced it will discontinue its Content Notes feature, which allowed users to add private notes to posts that only their followers could see. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, revealed the decision in a March 26 reel, explaining that the feature “wasn’t adopted by that many people” despite being launched to make the platform “more social and more fun.”

According to Mosseri, Instagram has become “too complicated” over time, prompting the company to remove underutilized features. A spokesperson confirmed to DailyMail.com that the ability to leave notes on posts or reels is already being phased out and will completely disappear “in the coming weeks.”

The announcement has upset some users, particularly content creators who utilized Content Notes to increase visibility. One creator explained on X that adding notes triggered notifications for followers, potentially drawing more attention to their posts—crucial for professionals who rely on engagement for brand partnerships.

Other users valued Content Notes as a middle ground between public comments and story shares, allowing them to share opinions with followers without making public statements.

When initially launched, however, many users found Content Notes annoying, with some complaining on Reddit about “more posts from accounts I don’t even follow” cluttering their feeds.
