KitKat Reimagines Breaks with a Slow-Motion Vending Machine Experience

KitKat has teamed up with VML and Delhi-based production house The Other Half to launch an experiential campaign that challenges the culture of speed. Titled “The Slooowest Vending Machine in the World,” the initiative transforms a routine snack moment into a mindful pause.

Installed in a bustling commercial hub in Hyderabad, the vending machine breaks away from the norm of instant gratification. Instead of dispensing a KitKat within seconds, it takes users on a slow, immersive journey. Once a coin is inserted, the chocolate moves through a series of playful, India-inspired scenes-featuring toy trains, Ferris wheels, trucks, rivers, and festive processions.

The concept, developed through a collaboration between VML Netherlands and VML India, uses design and storytelling to create a moment of stillness in a high-speed environment. It encourages people to pause, observe, and enjoy the experience rather than rush through it.

By extending the time it takes to receive a product, the campaign subtly questions the growing obsession with speed and efficiency. It highlights how even a small break, when experienced mindfully, can feel more meaningful.

The installation drew attention for its simplicity and charm, with people choosing to linger, smile, and engage with the experience.

Through this campaign, KitKat reinforces its iconic message in a refreshing way-reminding consumers that in the middle of a hectic day, it’s okay to slow down.
