Veteran political journalist and anchor Marya Shakil has officially joined India Today as a Senior Anchor, marking a new milestone in her impactful journey in television journalism. Known for her deep political acumen and grounded reportage, Shakil’s addition is expected to boost India Today’s editorial strength, particularly in primetime political programming.
With a journalism career spanning nearly two decades, Shakil began her reporting journey in 2005 and quickly rose to become one of the most recognised faces in Indian political news. She spent 18 years at CNN-News18, where she held key roles including Senior Political Editor and Special Bureau Chief. In August 2023, she moved to NDTV as Executive Editor (National Affairs), anchoring major shows and leading coverage of national politics. She stepped down from her NDTV role recently before joining India Today.
Over the years, Shakil has built a reputation for her in-depth election reporting, credible interviews, and analysis-driven storytelling. Her work has earned her several accolades, including the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism (2012) and the Chevening South Asia Journalism Fellowship (2016). She has also been recognised at the ENBA Awards for her impactful coverage.
In her new role at India Today, Shakil is expected to spearhead political programming during primetime and contribute to the channel’s flagship news coverage.
