Uber has introduced a ‘Missed Flight Connection Cover’ to assist Mumbai commuters facing airport delays due to extensive road construction. Launched in partnership with Reliance General Insurance, the service provides compensation up to Rs 7,500 for passengers who miss flights due to traffic delays.
Available for just Rs 3 per ride, the cover also includes OPD and medical expense coverage in case of accidents. The policy applies only when “airport” is set as the destination during booking.
The initiative addresses concerns from cab drivers reluctant to accept airport-bound rides due to high delay probabilities. Mumbai’s infrastructure challenges stem from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s repair works across 701 km of roads, with travel times to the airport now averaging 90-120 minutes.
To claim insurance, passengers must submit documentation including a signed claim form, booking reference, ride details, flight ticket copy, airline confirmation of no travel, reimbursement certificate, proof of new flight booking, and a crossed cheque for NEFT transfer.
While the BMC has temporarily suspended new excavation projects to minimize disruptions, passengers utilizing this insurance are advised to allow realistic travel times when planning airport journeys.
