YouTube has extended its experimental conversational AI feature to smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming devices, broadening access beyond mobile and desktop. The tool enables viewers to ask questions about the video they are watching without leaving the playback screen, ensuring a seamless viewing experience.
Eligible users can access the feature by selecting the “Ask” button on their TV interface. Suggested prompts appear onscreen, and viewers can also use their remote’s microphone to ask custom questions. For instance, someone watching a cooking tutorial can inquire about ingredients, while music fans can request context about song lyrics – all without interrupting playback. The feature is currently available to a limited group of users aged 18 and above, supporting English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean.
Originally introduced in 2024, the expansion aligns with the growing dominance of connected TV viewing. A Nielsen report from April 2025 noted that YouTube accounted for 12.4% of total U.S. television viewing time, surpassing platforms like Netflix and Disney.
The move follows AI-driven upgrades from competitors, including Amazon’s Alexa+ integration on Fire TV and enhanced AI voice search from Roku.
Beyond conversational AI, YouTube continues to integrate artificial intelligence across its ecosystem, from AI-powered comment summaries to enhanced video resolution and a new app for Apple Vision Pro, reinforcing its position at the forefront of connected entertainment innovation.
