LinkedIn Report Highlights Skill Stacks Driving the Future of Work in 2026

LinkedIn’s Skills on the Rise 2026 report highlights how the evolving job market is increasingly favouring professionals with diverse skill combinations rather than narrow specialisations. The study suggests that many young professionals are uncertain about which capabilities to develop as technology continues to rapidly transform workplace requirements.

According to LinkedIn data, 38% of Indian job seekers say they feel unprepared for the speed at which technological change is reshaping the skills needed for current roles. At the same time, hiring challenges persist for employers. Nearly 74% of recruiters in India report that finding qualified talent has become more difficult, indicating a widening gap between available skills and industry demand.

The report identifies five major skill clusters gaining traction across industries and functions. These include AI & automation, data & analytics, IT & cybersecurity, business & growth, and people & leadership. Employers are increasingly prioritising candidates who possess a blend of practical abilities that allow them to adapt and collaborate across teams.

The shift is particularly visible in marketing roles, where professionals are now expected to combine traditional marketing expertise with capabilities such as data interpretation, visual storytelling and familiarity with AI tools. These skills help organisations analyse insights and communicate ideas more effectively.

Among the emerging clusters, AI & automation reflects the growing adoption of artificial intelligence tools across business operations. While technical roles require skills like workflow automation, AutoML and API integration, prompt engineering is also becoming relevant in non-technical roles such as HR, marketing and sales.

The report also highlights rising demand for data-driven decision-making, relationship management, process optimisation and stakeholder collaboration. To support professionals in developing these capabilities, LinkedIn has made several LinkedIn Learning courses on AI tools, data analytics and leadership skills available free until 31 March 2026.
