Visa India has appointed Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan as its brand ambassador, signalling a deliberate strategic pivot in the global payments major’s marketing approach as competition intensifies across India’s fast-growing digital payments landscape.
The move marks a notable departure from Visa’s sports-led endorsement strategy in India. The brand previously partnered with badminton champion P.V. Sindhu ahead of the Tokyo Olympics in 2019, followed by Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra joining the roster ahead of Paris 2024. Khan’s appointment signals a shift toward mainstream, culture-led storytelling aimed at driving broader brand recall and emotional resonance.
Industry observers note the timing is deliberate. As digital payments become increasingly commoditised, brands are competing less on infrastructure and more on trust, affinity, and cultural relevance. Khan’s cross-generational appeal and global recognition are expected to help Visa expand its consumer base, particularly in non-metro markets where emotional connect drives adoption.

For Khan, the partnership adds another marquee name to an already expansive endorsement portfolio. In 2025 alone, he fronted Zomato’s ‘Fuel Your Hustle’ campaign and was appointed brand ambassador for premium real estate firm Elan Group – reinforcing his cross-category commercial dominance spanning automobiles, fintech, e-commerce, and tourism.
For Visa, integrated campaigns across television, digital, and on-ground platforms are expected, with messaging likely centred on trust, seamless transactions, and digital payments in everyday Indian life.
