Škoda’s Kylaq Just Drove From India to the Czech Republic

Škoda Auto India’s Kylaq has completed a 19,351-km overland expedition from Pune to Prague, covering two continents and 13 countries over 70 days.

The journey began at the Škoda Auto Volkswagen India manufacturing facility in Pune and ended in Prague, symbolically connecting the Kylaq’s manufacturing base in India with Škoda’s home country, the Czech Republic. Within India, the route passed through Mumbai, Vadodara, Udaipur, Jaipur, Agra and Lucknow before crossing into Nepal near Gorakhpur. From there, the Kylaq travelled through Nepal and China’s Tibetan Plateau, followed sections of the historic Silk Road through Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, and continued through Georgia, Türkiye, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia before reaching Prague.

Along the way, the SUV encountered elevations ranging from 154 metres below sea level to 5,364 metres above, and temperatures swinging between -12°C and 43°C across mountain roads, high-altitude plateaus and highways.

Ashish Gupta, Brand Director at Škoda Auto India, called the expedition a demonstration of Indian engineering on the global stage, adding that it reinforces India’s growing role in shaping Škoda’s future while reflecting confidence in the products being built locally.

The Kylaq is Škoda’s first sub-four-metre SUV for India, built on the locally developed MQB-A0-IN platform. It runs a 1.0-litre TSI engine producing 114 PS and 178 Nm torque, with the automatic variant used for this drive. The Kylaq recently also set a record for the fastest multi-car relay by a single manufacturer, alongside the Kushaq, Slavia, Octavia RS and Kodiaq.
