Spotify has announced its first telco partnership in India, joining hands with Vodafone Idea (VI) to bring Spotify Premium to VI postpaid subscribers across the country.
Under the partnership, VI postpaid users now get access to Spotify Premium benefits, including high-quality audio, offline listening, and an ad-free listening experience, integrated directly through their mobile plans. The move is aimed at removing barriers between listeners and the music and audio content they engage with regularly.
Commenting on the announcement, a Spotify India spokesperson called it a milestone moment for the platform in the country, noting that India’s audio streaming landscape stands out globally for its diversity, depth of personal engagement, and rapid growth. The partnership, they added, is designed to help VI users connect more deeply with their favourite songs, artists, and music culture, all powered by Spotify Premium.
The collaboration reflects a broader industry trend of streaming platforms partnering with telecom operators to expand access and reduce subscription friction for users, a model that has driven significant growth for audio and video streaming platforms in other markets.
Spotify credited the VI team, including Avneesh Khosla, Nitin Jain, and Teena Sainani, among others, for their role in making the partnership possible.
With this launch, Spotify strengthens its foothold in India’s competitive audio streaming market, tapping into VI’s postpaid subscriber base to expand Premium adoption while offering telecom users a value-added entertainment bundle as part of their existing plans.
