Google has launched Ask Google Pay, a Gemini-powered AI assistant within the Google Pay app that offers users personalised insights into their spending and financial habits, the company announced in a blog post.
The assistant lets users ask natural-language questions – via text or voice – about their transactions, spending patterns and savings, with support across 10 Indian languages. It draws on a user’s Google Pay transaction history and, where available, linked credit report data to surface personalised insights, flag spending trends, highlight recurring expenses, and suggest potential areas for savings.
Beyond transaction analysis, Ask Google Pay can also break down financial concepts for users, including systematic investment plans (SIPs), credit scores, compound interest and tax regimes. Google clarified that the feature is meant for educational purposes, with users retaining full control over their financial data.
Alongside the AI rollout, Google has also expanded its Flex credit offering through a new partnership with SBI Card. The Google Pay Flex SBI Card, built on the RuPay network, is available for application directly within the Google Pay app. The card comes with a rewards system called Stars and includes the option to convert outstanding balances into EMIs.
The move reflects Google’s broader push to embed AI-driven financial literacy tools into everyday banking experiences, as more users in India turn to digital platforms not just for transactions but for guidance on managing money. By combining conversational AI with credit products, Google Pay is positioning itself as more than a payments app – aiming to become a one-stop financial companion for its Indian user base.
