Excel Entertainment has expanded its creative portfolio with the launch of Excel Music, a dedicated music label backed by Universal Music Group (UMG) as a strategic shareholder and its marketing and distribution partner. The move marks the production house’s foray into the music business, strengthening its presence beyond film production.
The label’s inaugural release will be the soundtrack of Mirzapur: The Movie, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on September 4, 2026. The album’s first single, featuring the Bollywood debut of popular Haryanvi singer Dhanda, is set to release later this week.
Excel Music will serve as the home for original soundtracks and background scores from Excel Entertainment’s film slate while also collaborating with projects from other filmmakers and production houses across India. The label aims to create a diverse catalogue spanning multiple genres and audiences.
Commenting on the launch, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, founders of Excel Entertainment, said music has always been an integral part of the company’s storytelling journey. They described Excel Music as a natural extension of that vision and expressed excitement about collaborating with artists and creators to produce music that resonates with audiences across generations.
Sanujeet Bhujabal, Managing Director, India & South Asia, Universal Music Group, said the partnership builds on Excel Entertainment’s legacy of creating impactful stories. He added that UMG’s global artist network, extensive catalogue and marketing capabilities will help position Excel Music as a destination for quality music in India and international markets.
With the launch of Excel Music, Excel Entertainment is set to further strengthen its entertainment ecosystem by combining cinematic storytelling with original music.
