Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has revealed Sony VIZHA, the name and identity of its upcoming Tamil general entertainment channel, marking the network’s entry into the Tamil market ahead of its October 2026 launch.
The channel is built around a clear promise: premium content rooted in Tamil culture, emotion, language and lived experience, produced with the scale and craft to travel well beyond its home market. The lineup will span original fiction, global reality formats, films and tentpole entertainment across both television and digital.
The name and logo were unveiled on Independence Day through a children’s rendition of Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu, the invocation traditionally sung at significant occasions across Tamil Nadu. Its imagery of Tamil pride “spreading like fragrance in every direction” shaped the channel’s core promise: stories rooted in Tamil Nadu’s soil, carrying its warmth and cultural confidence, built for audiences everywhere.
“Vizha” translates to celebration or festival – reflecting the channel’s spirit as a celebration of Tamil stories, talent, music and popular entertainment. The logo pairs yellow, drawn from Tamil festive colours like turmeric and marigold, with electric blue for a contemporary, premium finish.
Rajaraman Sundaram, Chief Content Officer – South Regional, SPNI, called it a heartfelt entry into a market with a rich creative legacy, adding that the channel aims to build premium, close-to-home stories for a new generation of Tamil viewers – sharper, faster, funnier – while giving them the scale to travel further.
