NDTV has rebranded its flagship English news channel from NDTV 24×7 to simply NDTV, marking a shift from a television-first identity to one unified brand spanning TV, digital, social, streaming and Connected TV.
The new positioning, “When It Really Matters,” arrives with an updated visual language across all NDTV touchpoints. The network says the move reflects how audiences now move fluidly between platforms rather than sitting through linear, round-the-clock broadcasts – making “24×7” a descriptor of a bygone media habit rather than a differentiator.
The timing is notable: the rebrand precedes the expected return of BARC ratings for news channels, with landing-page views likely excluded from measurement. That resumption puts audience numbers back in play for English news broadcasters after a long ratings pause, adding weight to NDTV’s identity refresh from both a programming and advertising standpoint.
CEO and Editor-in-Chief Rahul Kanwal said 24×7 once signalled a format; today it describes a medium, while “NDTV describes the brand.” Managing Editor Shiv Aroor framed the new tagline as an editorial filter – a way to separate noise from stories with real consequence, rather than chasing volume and speed alone.
Beyond the name change, NDTV is aligning its on-air and digital identities under one umbrella, with the new positioning meant to shape editorial judgment as much as branding. The message: as the line between TV and digital keeps blurring, NDTV wants its name – not the format – to carry the weight.
