Flipkart has entered India’s booming microdrama space, partnering with Tencent-backed Pratilipi and content studio Terribly Tiny Tales (TTT) to launch scripted short-form content inside its shopping app, according to The Economic Times.
The new vertical, called Drama, sits within Flipkart’s ‘Play’ section alongside Explore, its existing content-driven discovery platform. Currently, the feed features series from TTT and Double Tap Films, Pratilipi’s in-house microdrama studio.
Sources told ET the timing is deliberate – Flipkart wants to boost engagement and time-on-app ahead of the festive shopping season, India’s most competitive e-commerce window. Microdramas, bite-sized scripted episodes built for mobile consumption, have exploded globally with younger, phone-first audiences, making them a natural fit for Flipkart’s push to hold user attention beyond transactional browsing.
This is the latest move in Flipkart’s evolving content-commerce playbook. The Walmart-backed company has been steadily layering entertainment into its shopping ecosystem, following its majority stake acquisition in lifestyle platform Pinkvilla last September – a deal aimed at building content muscle and deeper connections with Gen Z and millennial users.
By embedding drama series directly into the shopping journey, Flipkart is betting that entertainment can become a genuine discovery layer, not just a retention gimmick – turning idle scroll time into brand and product touchpoints. It’s a clear signal that India’s e-commerce players no longer see themselves as pure transaction platforms, but as attention economies competing with OTT and social media for the same eyeballs.
