Amazon Music Bets On Antakshari To Win India’s Heart

Amazon Music has launched its first brand campaign in India, and instead of leading with specs or subscription perks, it’s leaning into something far more personal: Antakshari, the singing game that shaped how millions of Indians first fell in love with music. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and conceptualised by creative agency Manja, the film arrives two months after the India launch of Amazon Music Unlimited, the platform’s premium tier offering ad-free listening, offline downloads, high-quality audio, and spatial sound.

Rather than dwell on features, the campaign builds an emotional case for why Amazon Music belongs in Indian homes. The film moves through instantly recognisable moments – terrace gatherings during power cuts, noisy family get-togethers, long train rides, and spontaneous house parties – all stitched together by the shared ritual of passing a song from one voice to the next. Music spanning languages and generations reinforces the idea that in India, listening has always been a group activity, not a solo one.

Singers Usha Uthup and Sonu Nigam front the film, bringing both nostalgia and musical weight to the story.

Divya Chadha, head of marketing at Amazon Music India, frames the campaign around how Antakshari introduced many Indians to music in the first place – through family, friends, and shared moments rather than personal playlists. Manja founder and CEO Arvind Krishnan calls the game a genuine cultural anchor, rooted in communal entertainment, memory, and the joy of “just one more song.”

The campaign will run across digital and out-of-home platforms.
