Gaurav Verma Named Chief Operating Officer at Aaj Tak

Aaj Tak has appointed Gaurav Verma as its new Chief Operating Officer, effective May 16, 2025. The move was approved by the Board of Directors of TV Today Network, which owns both Aaj Tak and Lallantop, where Verma currently serves in the same capacity. With this appointment, Verma is also designated as a Senior Management Personnel within the organization. Bringing over 25 years of experience in the Indian media industry, Verma has held prominent leadership roles, including Chief Revenue Officer at Times Network and Zee Media. His earlier stint with TV Today saw him drive revenue strategy for Aaj Tak and Tez as Vice President – Sales. Verma’s extensive background also includes leadership roles at CNBC TV18, India Today, and Business Standard. He holds a commerce degree from Delhi University, a diploma in Sales & Marketing from NIS, and has completed the Executive Excellence Program at the Indian School of Business (ISB).

WPP Restructures Creative Agencies: Grey Moves Under Ogilvy

In a significant shake-up of its creative agency structure, WPP is moving Grey under the leadership of Ogilvy as part of ongoing efforts to simplify operations and enhance cross-agency collaboration. Grey will no longer report to the AKQA Group, a structure in place since the two agencies were grouped together in 2020. Despite the shift, WPP emphasized that this is not a merger. Grey will continue to operate as an independent brand within the WPP network, maintaining its leadership team and client relationships. Laura Maness, Global CEO of Grey, will now report to Devika Bulchandani, Global CEO of Ogilvy. In a memo to employees, Bulchandani clarified, “This is not a consolidation, but rather a realignment to better reflect how our agencies operate in practice.” Grey and Ogilvy are expected to collaborate more closely in areas like strategy, public relations, and customer experience, leveraging complementary strengths. The move coincides with broader organizational changes at WPP. The AKQA Group is currently searching for a new global CEO following the departure of Ajaz Ahmed. Meanwhile, WPP’s media division, GroupM, is undergoing a restructuring that could affect up to 45% of its U.S. staff. Although Grey and AKQA were structurally linked for five years, they remained operationally distinct—Grey focusing on brand-building creative, and AKQA on design and technology. Both agencies will continue to collaborate on shared client work. This realignment is the latest step in CEO Mark Read’s broader strategy to streamline WPP’s structure and deliver more integrated services to clients.

Tata’s passenger vehicle (PV) segment saw a 13.1% revenue drop in Q4 to ₹12,543 crore, with full-year revenue down 7.5% to ₹48,445 crore. SUVs made up 55% of PV sales, and CNG and EVs were key growth drivers. Commercial vehicle (CV) volumes declined 4.8% YoY in Q4. However, annual CV revenue reached ₹75,000 crore, supported by a strategic focus on profitable growth, said Executive Director Girish Wagh.

Amazon Prime Introduces Ad-Supported Streaming; Ad-Free Option at ₹699/Year

Amazon Prime has announced a significant update to its video streaming service. Starting June 17, 2025, Prime Video will include limited advertisements in its standard offering. The company stated that the move is aimed at supporting long-term investments in original and licensed content. Despite this change, the price of the regular Prime membership will remain unchanged. However, subscribers who prefer an uninterrupted viewing experience can opt for an ad-free upgrade. The ad-free plan is priced at ₹699 annually or ₹129 per month and will be available to users starting June 17. In a communication to customers, Amazon clarified that the number of ads will be significantly fewer than those seen on traditional TV channels or rival streaming platforms. Amazon has already rolled out similar ad-supported models in the US, UK, and Canada, where users can pay an additional $2.99 per month to avoid ads. In India, the company continues to offer the Prime Lite plan at ₹799 per year, which restricts content access to mobile devices at 720p resolution. Importantly, users of the Prime Lite plan – already ad-supported – will not see any further changes. This marks a strategic shift in Amazon’s global streaming approach.

Google Unveils New Gradient ‘G’ Logo – First Major Redesign in Nearly a Decade

The refreshed logo aligns with Google’s AI-focused visual direction and Gemini branding. For the first time in nearly 10 years, Google has updated its iconic ‘G’ logo, introducing a sleek gradient design that blends its signature red, yellow, green, and blue colors more fluidly. The new look represents a shift toward a modern, AI-inspired visual identity that ties in closely with Google’s Gemini and AI Mode in Search branding. The refreshed logo is already rolling out across iOS and Pixel devices, and appears in version 16.18 (beta) of the Google app on Android. However, the familiar segmented ‘G’ remains visible on many Android phones and web platforms, signaling a phased rollout. While the primary six-letter “Google” wordmark remains unchanged, this subtle redesign is part of a broader push to unify Google’s visual language across its expanding suite of AI-driven products. The new gradient style hints that other product icons – like Chrome, Maps, and Photos – may soon follow suit to maintain a consistent brand experience. The company has yet to release an official statement on when the new logo will be adopted across all platforms. This marks Google’s most significant logo update since September 2015, when the tech giant transitioned to its current sans-serif typeface – a move that signaled the brand’s mobile-first evolution. Today’s redesign reflects a similar moment: one that repositions Google as a leader in the AI-first era.

Himalaya Wellness Highlights Gum Health in New Awareness Campaign

Campaign developed by Social Panga returns for its second edition on Gum Health Day Himalaya Wellness Company has launched the second phase of its gum health initiative, #ItStartsWithGums, timed with Gum Health Day. Developed in partnership with creative agency Social Panga, the campaign takes a light-hearted approach to emphasize the importance of healthy gums as the foundation for strong oral hygiene – a concept deeply rooted in Ayurvedic principles. The latest campaign features two engaging digital films titled “SOS” and “Breath-checker”. These videos use AI-driven dialogues to spotlight everyday gum issues like bleeding and bad breath, reinforcing the message that lasting oral health begins with taking care of your gums. The multi-platform campaign is being deployed across YouTube, Facebook, and other digital channels. It will also include high-impact displays at key transit locations and influencer-driven content featuring oral health experts. “Healthy gums are the foundation of oral health, yet they’re often overlooked,” said Ragini Hariharan, Marketing Director for Personal Care and Hygiene at Himalaya Wellness Company. “With the second edition of #ItStartsWithGums, we aim to not only raise awareness but inspire behavior change. Our goal is to empower consumers to take simple, preventive steps that can make a long-term impact – because a healthy smile starts with healthy gums.” Gum disease often goes undetected, making education around preventive care crucial. Himalaya is using the campaign to promote its Ayurveda Gum Care Toothpaste, formulated with 13 Ayurvedic herbs inspired by Danta Swasthyapractices. According to Ponnappa K.B, Brand Manager of Himalaya’s Consumer Products Division, the product helps fight plaque, eliminates harmful bacteria, and strengthens gum tissue for better oral protection. Sunitha Natarajan, Director of Digital Strategy at Social Panga, commented on the creative approach: “Our campaign brings gum health into the digital age, blending AI-led storytelling with traditional wisdom. It’s about making oral care relatable and top-of-mind, showing people that truly effective dental care begins with the gums.” With a combination of modern tech, influencer outreach, and traditional Ayurvedic messaging, Himalaya’s campaign is driving home a powerful message: when it comes to oral health, #ItStartsWithGums.

Balaji Telefilms Strengthens Digital Footprint Across OTT, YouTube, and TV

The content powerhouse embraces a digital-first strategy while staying rooted in its storytelling legacy. Balaji Telefilms is ramping up its digital strategy with a diverse slate of content tailored for OTT platforms, YouTube, and traditional TV. As audience preferences continue to evolve, the company is reshaping its approach to storytelling by adopting a platform-first mindset while holding on to its signature narrative style. In Q1 FY25, the company reported an 11% quarter-on-quarter rise in group revenue, reaching ₹149.2 crore – a sign of strong momentum as Balaji pivots toward a digitally integrated future. As part of this shift, Balaji has rolled out original shows for JioHotstar, including the college-centric drama Power of Paanch and the psychological thriller Dus June Ki Raat. Another recent highlight is Kull – The Legacy of the Raisingghs, a family drama featuring Nimrat Kaur, Ridhi Dogra, and Amol Parashar. The company is also tapping into YouTube Originals with its debut series The Great Indian Cricket Fan, which celebrates the country’s deep-rooted love for cricket. These initiatives underscore Balaji’s commitment to creating digital-first content for diverse audiences across regions and platforms. Nitin Burman, Group Chief Revenue Officer at Balaji Telefilms, explained the company’s vision:“Storytelling is the core of who we are. We’ve always created narratives that reflect the dreams and emotions of Indian audiences. Now, we’re expanding that legacy into the digital era. From metros to small towns, and across age groups, our aim is to connect more deeply with every viewer through tailored, platform-specific content.” He added, “We’re not just increasing our presence – we’re setting new benchmarks in content that’s emotionally resonant and culturally grounded. With a growing digital catalogue and continued innovation, Balaji is ready to lead the next wave of entertainment both in India and beyond.” While Balaji doubles down on digital content, its traditional formats remain strong. The studio continues to deliver television hits like Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, and is developing new film projects including Bhoot Bangla and VVAN –  Force of the Forrest. Rumors also suggest a potential revival of the iconic Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. As Balaji Telefilms broadens its reach with a mix of long and short-form stories across mediums, the company is positioning itself as a modern content leader with timeless storytelling at its core.
