Crayons Completes 40 Years, Charts AI-Led Path for Independent Growth

Advertising agency Crayons has marked four decades in business, tracing its journey from a single New Delhi office to a full-fledged independent network spanning multiple Indian cities and Dubai.

The agency was founded by Kunal Lalani in New Delhi in July 1986. Since then, Crayons has steadily expanded its geographic footprint, entering Chandigarh in 1996, followed by Jaipur, Mumbai, Lucknow, Chennai and Kolkata. In 2006, the agency extended its reach beyond India, setting up an office in Dubai to tap into the GCC market.

Over its 40-year run, Crayons has built a diverse client portfolio across sectors such as tourism, aviation, healthcare, hospitality and consumer goods. Its roster has included major names like Air India, Tata, ITC, Kajaria, Fortis Healthcare, APL Apollo and The Leela Hotels, alongside various state tourism boards and government institutions.

The agency broadened its service offerings in 2011, moving beyond traditional advertising into media, digital, out-of-home and event management through specialist units – Melon Media, Ultraviolet Digital, Amber OOH and Jade Events. This diversification helped Crayons position itself as an integrated marketing player rather than a single-service agency.

In a significant corporate milestone, Crayons got listed on the NSE SME platform in May 2023, strengthening its standing as a publicly accountable, independent network.

Looking ahead, as it celebrates its 40th anniversary, Crayons has reaffirmed its commitment to integrated marketing solutions, with artificial intelligence set to play a central role across its service offerings – signalling the agency’s intent to stay competitive and innovation-led in the years ahead.
