Flipkart Recreates Chennai’s Ranganathan Street in Hand-Drawn, QR-Enabled Print Campaign

Flipkart has turned Tamil Nadu’s beloved Aadi shopping season into an interactive print experience with its ‘Aadi Thallaadhabadi’ Sale campaign, created in partnership with 22feet, part of Omnicom Advertising India. Published in Dinakaran, one of Tamil Nadu’s leading newspapers, the campaign recreates the energy of Chennai’s iconic Ranganathan Street through an intricately hand-drawn illustration, letting readers discover hidden Flipkart deals by scanning embedded QR codes.

At a time when AI-generated imagery is becoming the norm in advertising, Flipkart chose to lean into human craftsmanship instead. The illustration painstakingly recreates every storefront, signboard and crowded stretch of Ranganathan Street – a destination synonymous with generations of Aadi shopping memories – turning the artwork into a true-to-life tribute to one of Tamil Nadu’s most-loved shopping hubs.

The campaign reflects Flipkart’s ongoing push to engage regional audiences through culturally rooted storytelling, while celebrating creativity in an increasingly AI-driven landscape. By merging handcrafted art with interactive QR technology, it transforms a traditional newspaper ad into an immersive shopping experience, bringing the festive spirit of Ranganathan Street directly to Flipkart’s online sale.

Vishnu Srivatsav, Chief Creative Experience Officer, 22feet, said the team viewed Ranganathan Street not as competition but as cultural inspiration, tapping into the ritual of deal-hunting that shoppers associate with the street and reimagining it for Flipkart’s Aadi sale.

The Aadi Thallaadhabadi Sale is live until 31st July, offering shoppers a festive experience that blends local tradition with the convenience of online shopping during one of Tamil Nadu’s biggest shopping seasons.
