Google has introduced Video Remix, a new AI-powered feature in Google Photos that lets users transform videos with cinematic effects in just a few taps. Powered by the company’s Gemini Omni model, the tool offers ready-made templates to help users create stylised versions of their existing video clips without needing professional editing skills.
Video Remix is available in the Create tab of Google Photos, alongside the app’s other editing and enhancement tools. The feature allows users to apply cinematic relighting to brighten darker footage, swap out plain backgrounds for different scenes, and add artistic treatments such as watercolor, raw sketchbook and oil painting effects. For instance, users can make a clip look as though it was shot inside a greenhouse, add a warm morning glow through relighting, or give it a hand-painted, watercolor-style finish.
Announcing the feature, Google said the goal is to simplify video editing for everyday users, noting in a blog post that creating share-worthy clips shouldn’t require professional skills or hours of work, and that Video Remix makes that possible in just a few taps.
The feature is rolling out to eligible Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers across select countries, including the US, India, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, Turkey and others.
This follows a string of recent AI updates to Google Photos, including new touch-up tools for blemish removal, skin refinement and teeth whitening, as well as a digital closet feature that lets users virtually try on outfits using photos of their clothing.
