The Department of Tourism, Government of Bihar, in association with HistoryTV18, has launched ‘Bihar – The Land of Art & Crafts’, a two-part special showcasing the state’s rich artistic traditions, cultural heritage and skilled craftsmanship.
The series explores Bihar’s living legacy of art, highlighting how traditional crafts continue to thrive through local communities and artisans. From intricate paintings and embroidery to silk weaving, terracotta, stone carving and eco-friendly crafts, the special celebrates the creativity that has shaped Bihar’s cultural identity for generations.
The first episode features some of the state’s most renowned art forms, including Madhubani (Mithila) painting, Sujni embroidery, stone carving from regions such as Gaya and Nalanda, and traditional terracotta craftsmanship. Each segment traces the history, techniques and cultural significance of these timeless traditions.
The second episode focuses on Bhagalpuri (Tussar) silk, Sikki grass craft, Manjusha painting and Tikuli art, highlighting their evolution from regional practices to nationally recognised art forms. The programme also showcases how these crafts continue to generate livelihoods, empower women artisans and preserve traditional knowledge across generations.
Through the two-part series, Bihar Tourism and HistoryTV18 aim to position the state as a destination known not only for its historical significance but also for its vibrant creative heritage and thriving artisan communities.
‘Bihar – The Land of Art & Crafts’ premieres on HistoryTV18 with the first episode airing on Monday, July 20 at 8 PM, followed by the second episode on Tuesday, July 21 at 9 PM. The special offers viewers an immersive journey into Bihar’s diverse artistic traditions and the people keeping them alive.
