HP and Perplexity are deepening the AI-on-PC push with a new partnership that pre-loads the Perplexity Windows app on select HP devices, giving users built-in access to AI-powered research, productivity tools and task automation – including Perplexity Computer, which works across files, Microsoft 365 apps and the web.
The rollout starts with HP’s ZBook Ultra G3a, a mobile workstation built for heavy AI workloads, with the Perplexity app pre-loaded in the taskbar for both cloud and on-device AI access. More HP Windows devices are expected to get the integration in the coming months.
Perplexity Computer plugs directly into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, and on Windows PCs can also work with local files – locating documents, updating spreadsheets with live web data, or drafting a presentation. It connects to over 400 external apps and data sources, including Salesforce, Snowflake and Autodesk Revit, and can orchestrate 15+ AI models from providers like OpenAI, Anthropic and Google depending on the task.
A standout feature, Portable Computer, lets supported devices run AI workflows entirely on-device, keeping sensitive data local and cutting cloud-credit usage, while still allowing users to escalate complex tasks to the cloud with a data-sharing alert beforehand. This is especially suited to the ZBook Ultra G3a’s AMD Ryzen AI Max PRO 400-series chips.
HP and Perplexity have also partnered with Autodesk to bring natural-language querying into Revit’s BIM workflows via a read-only MCP integration, letting users pull building data, highlight model elements and export reports instantly.
