MakeMyTrip has launched Price Drop Protection, an opt-in add-on that refunds the fare difference if a flight ticket gets cheaper after booking. Available for domestic and international flights, across one-way and round-trip journeys, it targets travellers who keep searching and delay booking in the hope of a better rate.

Travellers can add the feature at checkout. Once the booking is confirmed, MakeMyTrip tracks the fare until six hours before departure. If the price falls below the originally booked fare, the traveller is alerted and the difference is automatically credited to the original payment method.

Pricing starts at ₹229 per person for domestic flights, with refunds capped at ₹2,500 per person. For international flights, it starts at ₹349, with a cap of ₹3,000. For instance, if a ₹1,00,000 international fare drops 15% to ₹85,000, the ₹15,000 difference would still be refunded only up to ₹3,000 per person.

Raj Rishi Singh, COO, Flights, Corporate, GCC and Marketing at MakeMyTrip, said travellers should not have to choose between booking early and worrying that fares may fall later. He added that the feature lets them book when it suits them, knowing they are protected if the fare drops. It joins Zero Cancellation and Free Date Change in the platform’s flight assurance suite. The company said early adopters saw steady traction during testing, with a significant share receiving refunds on domestic and international routes.

I used only the caps that both sources agree on (₹2,500 domestic and ₹3,000 international). Your earlier notes listed higher round-trip caps of ₹5,000 and ₹6,000, which the Livemint piece doesn’t mention, so I’d confirm those with MakeMyTrip’s release before adding them.
