Marico Bets Bigger on Brand Building as Q2 Profit Climbs 31%

Marico stepped up its brand investments in the September quarter, with advertising and sales promotion (A&P) spends rising 44% year on year to Rs 451 crore in Q2FY27, up from Rs 313 crore a year ago. A&P now accounts for 11.6% of revenue, compared with 9.1% in the same quarter last year. The company said the higher outlay is meant to strengthen its brands and back its growth initiatives.

The spending came alongside healthy top-line momentum. Consolidated revenue from operations grew 13% to Rs 3,897 crore from Rs 3,450 crore, while net profit rose 31% to Rs 550 crore from Rs 420 crore. EBITDA climbed 27% to Rs 709 crore, with margin expanding 200 basis points to 18.2%. Marico credited a nearly 600-basis-point gain in gross margin, helped by a favourable portfolio mix and lower copra prices.

In India, revenue rose 10% to Rs 2,916 crore, backed by 10% underlying volume growth. Over 95% of the business held market share and penetration on a moving annual total basis. Traditional and organised trade grew in double digits, and quick commerce accelerated. Parachute Rigids posted 13% volume growth, value-added hair oils grew 21% in value, and the foods portfolio surged 45%, crossing an annualised run rate of Rs 1,500 crore.

For H1FY27, revenue rose 18% to Rs 7,854 crore and net profit grew 28% to Rs 1,180 crore. A&P spends stood at Rs 778 crore, up 36%, or 9.9% of revenue. MD and CEO Saugata Gupta said the company will keep investing in its brands, people and capabilities.
