Netflix Turns a Decade in India Into a Tourism Story

Netflix is marking ten years in India with a move that turns storytelling into sightseeing. The streaming giant has expanded its partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Culture, launching an ‘As Seen on Netflix’ section on the Incredible India website – a space where viewers can explore the real destinations, traditions, and cultural moments behind their favourite Netflix India titles.

The initiative was unveiled by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos at an event held at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, which also featured a conversation on storytelling’s role in tourism and the premiere of two films spotlighting India’s wildlife and heritage.

The collaboration builds on an MoU signed last year, with the goal of inspiring global audiences to discover the real-life locations and cultures woven into Netflix’s Indian storytelling – while giving India’s creative industry a further boost.

Shekhawat called India’s stories its most powerful cultural ambassadors, noting that the partnership offers a way to bring India’s heritage and destinations to the world, and the world closer to India. Sarandos echoed the sentiment, pointing out that India isn’t one story but many – and that a decade of region-rooted storytelling has shown how narrative can turn into genuine cultural curiosity.

From The Elephant Whisperers to Heeramandi and Amar Singh Chamkila, Netflix’s India slate has quietly built a map of the country – one now audiences can follow off-screen.
