OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, a presentation startup, with its team now moving over to work on ChatGPT.
Founder Ahmed Beshry announced the deal, revealing it had actually closed earlier this year but was only made public now. Deal terms weren’t disclosed.
Launched just over a year ago, NextSlide set out to simplify presentation-building for people without design skills – turning prompts, notes, documents and research into ready-to-edit decks.
Beshry said the startup’s larger mission was making visual communication more accessible, helping people get their ideas across clearly. That mission continues at OpenAI, where the team will now build AI products focused on creation and communication.
A note from Beshry now greets visitors on NextSlide’s website, confirming the move and thanking the community that built decks, shared feedback and backed the startup through its journey.
Before NextSlide, Beshry co-founded Caper AI, the smart cart and cashier-less checkout startup Instacart acquired back in 2021.
This marks another instance of OpenAI absorbing niche product teams to bolt on new capabilities to ChatGPT — following a pattern of talent-and-tech acquisitions aimed at expanding what the chatbot can do beyond conversation.
