Prime Focus Buys Into Spain’s Animation Future With Ánima Stake

Prime Focus Limited has expanded its global animation footprint by acquiring a 48.45% stake in Spanish animation studio Ánima Kitchent Canarias, S.L. The deal was executed through Double Negative Films Limited (DNFL), its indirect subsidiary, which paid approximately Rs 13.70 crore in cash to secure the stake. The transaction closed on June 26, 2026.

According to the media and entertainment technology company, the move is designed to deepen its foothold in Spain’s animation production ecosystem while opening doors to broader international markets. As part of the deal, Prime Focus also gains access to a partnership with SETT (Sociedad Española para la Transformación Tecnológica), a Spanish government fund that has pledged up to €24.9 million toward Ánima Kitchent Canarias under a public-private partnership arrangement.

The company confirmed that the transaction is not a related-party arrangement and noted that all necessary regulatory and governmental clearances have either already been secured or are in process.

Established in 2014, Ánima Kitchent Canarias has built a name for itself in 2D and 3D animated content production and distribution. Its portfolio spans well-known children’s properties including Cuquín, Lea & Pop, Titto Lizzardo, Tippi T-Rex, and PINY Institute of New York.

Financially, the studio posted a turnover of Rs 92 crore in FY25 alongside a net profit of Rs 11 crore and a net worth of Rs 68 crore – up from Rs 65 crore in FY24 and Rs 59 crore in FY23.

Prime Focus said the acquisition will strengthen its global animation capabilities and reinforce its European presence, particularly as Spain’s animation industry continues to scale.
