Story TV Bets Big on South India, Plans 1,000 Original Microdramas by March 2027

Eloelo Group-owned Story TV is ramping up its regional content play, announcing plans to roll out over 1,000 original microdramas in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam by March 2027 – its biggest investment in South Indian content yet.

The push is fuelled by strong regional traction: Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kochi already rank among the platform’s top consumption markets, with users in the south spending an average of 95 minutes daily on the app. The upcoming slate spans genres including romance, family drama, thriller, revenge, comedy and emotional drama, with stories crafted specifically for each language’s audience.

“Our focus is to build a local creative talent community, invest in original stories across languages, and raise the quality of premium vertical storytelling together,” said GSN Aditya, COO, Story TV, adding that South India will serve as a blueprint for the company’s broader regional expansion.

The Tamil lineup includes director Alagar, cinematographer Laxman Kumar, and actors Preetha Jenarthanan and Yuhani Shree, among others. The Telugu slate features director Ajju, Nandi Award-winning cinematographer Om Prakash, and actors including Charan Lakkaraju and Raksha.

Story TV said its existing South Indian titles have already crossed 250 million views, with hits like Vaarasudu Vacchadu, VIP Card and Srimanthudu leading the charge. Kannada and Malayalam originals will follow in phases.

As mobile-first, vertical microdrama viewing gains momentum across India, Story TV is positioning regional storytelling as the next frontier – deepening ties with southern writers, filmmakers and actors along the way.
