India is set to spotlight its burgeoning AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality) sector at the inaugural WAVES (World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit) 2025. Scheduled from May 1 to 4 at Mumbai’s Jio World Centre, the summit aims to position India as a global hub for immersive and digital storytelling.
With over 750 digital creators selected nationwide, WAVES 2025 emphasizes India’s creative prowess. Participants include social media influencers, dancers, DJs, and viral content creators who have risen through digital challenges. Their work will be showcased alongside immersive experiences and state pavilions in the Bharat Pavilion, dedicated to India’s cultural and creative industries.
A key highlight is the “Unlocking Creativity” trailer-making competition, co-hosted by Netflix. This initiative invites emerging filmmakers to craft compelling trailers using Netflix’s extensive content library. Participants will undergo expert-led training in storytelling, video editing, and sound design, culminating in a final showcase judged by industry professionals. Top performers will receive certificates, exclusive merchandise, and the opportunity to attend the WAVES Summit in Mumbai.
The summit also features creative challenges such as the AI Art Installation Challenge, where artists and AI enthusiasts create interactive art installations using AI to showcase its role in creative expression. Additionally, the Waves Explorer challenge encourages influencers to showcase hidden cultural and industry gems in their cities through vlogs, promoting tourism and cultural exchange.
