WhatsApp has officially launched Business AI in India, introducing AI-powered customer support tools directly within the WhatsApp Business app. Available across Indian regional languages, the feature is designed to help small businesses automate conversations, improve customer engagement, and drive sales more efficiently.
The new AI assistant allows businesses to respond to customer queries round the clock, recommend products, capture leads, schedule appointments, and manage common service-related questions – all without relying on external software or third-party platforms.
Businesses can customise the AI using their own product catalogues, brand information, and FAQs, enabling the tool to handle queries related to pricing, discounts, delivery, and services in a more personalised way. WhatsApp also plans to introduce UPI-based payments directly within chats, further simplifying the customer purchase journey.
For more complex issues, businesses will still have the option to manually take over conversations from the AI assistant.
The launch comes at a time when conversational commerce continues to grow rapidly in India. According to a recent Kantar study, a majority of Indian online users interact with businesses through chat platforms every week, making messaging one of the country’s preferred customer engagement channels.
Several early adopters are already reporting significant business impact. Brands using the tool have seen improved response times, higher lead conversions, and increased sales through automated customer interactions.
With this rollout, WhatsApp is positioning itself as more than just a messaging platform – evolving into a full-scale commerce and customer engagement ecosystem for India’s growing small business community.
