WPP Media India has launched From Concept to Scale: The Commerce-First Launch Playbook for India, examining how commerce platforms are changing the way brands bring new products to market. It argues that e-commerce is moving beyond transactions and distribution to become an environment for demand discovery, product testing and scaling.
Commerce-first launches let brands test propositions in live shopping environments, using signals such as clicks, trial, reviews and repeat purchases to gauge demand. Non-metro India is a key opportunity, with Tier 2 and smaller cities accounting for around 65% of new e-retail shoppers acquired in 2024-25.
Quick commerce gets special attention, as 10-to-20-minute delivery speeds up trials and learning cycles. It made up 16-17% of India’s e-commerce GMV in 2025 and is projected to add 45-50% of incremental e-retail GMV through 2030. With around 90% of retail still offline, brands can use digital demand signals before expanding into offline trade.
The playbook includes a 90-day gated launch operating system, a quick-commerce entry framework and seven questions for commerce leaders. Ashwin Padmanabhan, COO, WPP Media South Asia, said brands should learn earlier and scale with precision. Sairam Ranganathan, head of ecommerce, WPP Media India, called the future of launches decisively commerce-first.
