Zoho may revisit its work-from-home policy following recent discussions around fuel conservation and reducing import dependence, according to comments made by Sridhar Vembu.
In a post shared on X, Vembu said the company could reassess its current work-from-office approach after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens and organisations to adopt measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption and lowering reliance on imports.
Vembu noted that Zoho had recently shifted back to a full work-from-office model but indicated the company is now open to reconsidering remote work options. He said the organisation hopes to contribute positively to broader efforts around sustainability and resource conservation.
The comments were shared alongside a “Nation First” message highlighting several suggestions linked to reducing fuel usage, including encouraging work from home where possible, increasing public transport usage, cutting petrol and diesel consumption, and avoiding non-essential travel.
Vembu also mentioned that Zoho has already begun implementing sustainability-focused measures internally. According to him, the company has adopted natural farming practices and is actively exploring ways to reduce diesel consumption across operations.
The remarks sparked conversations online, particularly around the possible impact of large-scale work-from-home arrangements on small businesses operating near office hubs, including food stalls, transport providers, and local vendors.
Responding to concerns, Vembu said Zoho had supported canteen workers and drivers during previous remote-work phases and had also used company kitchens to distribute free meals around office locations during that period.
