Flipkart Turns Kolkata’s BBD Bagh Into a Pun Machine for Big Billion Days

Flipkart has launched ‘Board the Bus to BBD Bagh’, a campaign for its upcoming Big Billion Days sale, which kicks off on 9 October. The campaign, conceptualised by creative agency Talented, centres on an ad film built around Kolkata’s local flavour.

The film leans into the city’s cultural cues, humour and love for wordplay to bring Flipkart’s sale to life through a distinctly Kolkata lens. It follows Madhusudan, a man who has spent 15 years puzzling over what “BBD” actually stands for – only to finally learn it’s shorthand for Flipkart’s Big Billion Days. The film builds its central joke around BBD Bagh, the well-known Kolkata landmark, turning it into a pun as Madhusudan invites fellow passengers to “board the bus to BBD Bagh” for fatafati deals.

A standout moment comes when a woman’s bag zipper snaps mid-ride, giving Madhusudan the perfect opening to nudge her toward the sale – suggesting she treat her “BBD ticket” as her way in to shop for a replacement and more. The film wraps with a voiceover reminding viewers that anyone on this route can unlock Big Billion Deals across categories on their way to the destination.

By rooting the campaign in a real Kolkata locale and local humour, Flipkart taps into regional storytelling to build early buzz ahead of its flagship sale event, aiming to make the BBD acronym instantly memorable – and funny – for its Kolkata audience.
