Google Pay taps teen independence with ‘Pocket Money’ campaign during IPL 2026

Google Pay has rolled out a new campaign to promote its ‘Pocket Money’ feature, built on UPI Circle in collaboration with National Payments Corporation of India. Conceptualized by TBWA\Lintas, the campaign uses a series of films to spotlight how teenagers navigate everyday digital payments.

At the heart of the narrative is a simple insight-while teens today are increasingly independent, they still rely on parents for financial transactions. The films capture relatable, real-life scenarios where young users find themselves needing to make payments but depend on older family members to complete them.

The ‘Pocket Money’ feature addresses this gap by allowing a teenager’s UPI ID to be linked to a parent’s bank account. This enables seamless digital transactions while giving parents visibility and control, striking a balance between independence and oversight.

The campaign also features 15-year-old cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, adding cultural relevance and youth appeal-especially during the high-engagement window of IPL 2026. His presence reinforces the theme of early responsibility and ambition among young Indians.

Rolling out across television, digital, and social platforms, the campaign positions ‘Pocket Money’ as a tool for introducing teenagers to financial literacy in a controlled, practical way. It aligns with the broader shift in fintech communication-from pure functionality to enabling life-stage-based use cases and everyday empowerment.
