Meta Introduces ‘Incognito Chat’ for Private AI Conversations on WhatsApp

Meta has announced the launch of Incognito Chat with Meta AI on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app, introducing a new privacy-focused way for users to interact with artificial intelligence.

Built using WhatsApp’s Private Processing technology, the feature is designed to enable completely private AI conversations where messages remain invisible to everyone, including Meta itself. The company said the move comes as more users turn to AI for sensitive and personal discussions related to health, finances, career decisions, and everyday advice.

According to Meta, Incognito Chat creates a temporary and secure environment for AI interactions. Conversations are not stored, messages disappear by default, and the chats cannot be accessed or viewed by Meta. The company says this differentiates the feature from traditional “incognito” modes offered by other platforms, where user inputs and outputs may still remain visible to service providers.

The feature aims to give users a more confidential and secure space to ask questions, explore ideas, and seek assistance without concerns around data visibility or long-term storage.

Meta also revealed plans to introduce Sidechat on WhatsApp in the coming months. Protected through the same Private Processing framework, the feature will provide contextual AI assistance within ongoing WhatsApp conversations without interrupting the primary chat experience.

The rollout of Incognito Chat with Meta AI will begin gradually across WhatsApp and the Meta AI app over the coming months as the company expands its privacy-focused AI offerings globally.
