When a brand has spent decades owning one format, changing its shape is more than a product launch-it’s a brand strategy.
Ferrero Rocher is now taking its premium equity from the familiar golden-wrapped praline to the chocolate bar aisle in India.
The brand has launched Ferrero Rocher Bars, marking its entry into the premium chocolate bar segment. The new 90g bars come in two variants-Classic Hazelnut and 70% Cocoa Hazelnut-with an MRP of Rs 499.
For Ferrero Rocher, the opportunity goes beyond adding another SKU to its portfolio. It is about taking an established proposition around premium indulgence, quality and distinctive textures and translating it into a different consumption occasion.
And the campaign makes that shift remarkably simple.
Titled ‘Ferrero Rocher is a Bar.’, the communication takes the product’s biggest change and turns it into the central idea. There is little need for consumers to decode what the brand is saying-it is quite literally announcing a new chapter for Rocher.
The campaign spans OOH, digital and creator collaborations, including a film featuring actor Hrithik Roshan.
Zoher Kapuswala, Marketing Head, Ferrero India Subcontinent, said the new format brings Ferrero Rocher’s signature quality, craftsmanship and textures to a new way of experiencing the brand.
From a marketing standpoint, the move is particularly interesting because Ferrero isn’t starting from zero. It is leveraging existing brand recognition to enter a highly competitive category.
The bigger question now is whether consumers who know Ferrero Rocher as a premium gifting icon will embrace it as their premium chocolate-bar choice.
Because sometimes, the smartest way to enter a new category isn’t to build a new brand-it’s to make an old favourite behave differently.
