Adidas has marked the end of Lionel Messi’s Argentina career with a film that trades statistics and trophies for something far more personal: the footballer’s own voice. Over a montage of moments in the sky blue and white shirt, Messi narrates his goodbye. He says the moment has arrived, that he leaves in peace having given everything, and that the jersey was his dream, his pride and his life. He closes by thanking fans for their love and promising to carry them with him always.
The journey the film revisits was never smooth. For years Messi lived in Maradona’s shadow, with every tournament reopening the debate. Then came redemption: the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 Finalissima and the World Cup win in Qatar.
