Godawan has released a handcrafted stop-motion film on the Great Indian Bustard, the bird the brand is named after, for World Wildlife Week. Presented by Godawan Estuary Premium Water and made with Studio Eeksaurus, the film blends stop-motion, 2D animation and live action, with more than 100 artists and craftspeople contributing. It was directed and conceptualised by 22feet and McCann India, both part of Omnicom Advertising India.
Craft sits at the centre of the visual language. Over 5,200 individual ceramic pieces, inspired by Jaipur Blue Pottery, were made, arranged and photographed by hand. The production ran for more than eight months and took 15,000 hours. The score draws on Rajasthani folk traditions, using instruments like the Ravanahatha and Morchang, and was composed by Resul Pookutty, Taufiq Qureshi and Rajat Dholakia.
The film builds on conservation work that began in 2022. Godawan 100 marked the population reaching 100 birds in 2023, followed by the Durbar platform on Rajasthan’s culture in 2024. In 2025, Godawan 173: The Collector’s Edition celebrated 173 birds through 173 handcrafted bottles. Earlier this year, the story was projected onto the Qutub Minar for World Environment Day.
Leaders from the project tied the approach to patience and purpose. Diageo India’s Ruchira Jaitly said that at a time when almost anything can be created in seconds, the team chose to make this by hand. Studio Eeksaurus co-founder Suresh Eriyat compared the process to the patience needed to protect an egg or rebuild a population. McCann India’s Rahul Mathew noted that the effort also supports the region’s artisans. The entire film was made in India.
