Birla Opus Paints has rolled out a new Onam campaign celebrating togetherness through Kerala’s cherished Pookalam tradition, built around the line “Many Colours Make a Pookalam, Many Hearts Make an Onam.”
The film, set in Kerala, follows a young woman readying her freshly painted home for Onam alongside her grandmother. Drawing on childhood memories of community-made Pookalams, she rallies her housing society’s residents to craft a shared floral arrangement – turning an individual ritual into a collective celebration.
The Pookalam becomes a metaphor for how many small contributions – colours, flowers, people – come together to create something larger, echoing the brand’s own emphasis on colour as a connector, not just a design element.
Inderpreet Singh, Head of Marketing, Birla Opus Paints, said Onam represents togetherness, gratitude and new beginnings, adding that the campaign reflects the brand’s belief that colour can strengthen human connection as much as it transforms spaces, creating memories that outlast the festivities.
Sachin Kamble, Chief Creative Officer, Leo South Asia, said the film stems from the idea that spaces are ultimately shaped by the people within them. He noted that the Pookalam is more than a festive symbol – it’s a tradition rooted in togetherness – and that the campaign celebrates how shared moments, not just colours and flowers, are what truly make a house feel like home.
With this campaign, Birla Opus continues to position itself around emotional, culturally rooted storytelling rather than pure product messaging.
