ChatGPT India has launched its first microdrama, “The Grand Return,” built around a retired grandmother who walks into a new-age marketing agency looking for an internship. The setup may remind viewers of the 2015 Hollywood film The Intern, though the resemblance is thematic rather than an official adaptation. Revathy Asha Kelunni plays the grandmother, with Shreya Kalra, Vineeth Beep Kumar and Sanjana Sarathy as the younger agency members.
The opening episode quickly establishes the workplace and its characters, each using ChatGPT differently. The grandmother’s arrival brings an older user into a young, digitally fluent environment, showing the tool’s relevance across age groups rather than only for young professionals. OpenAI used a similar approach in an earlier ChatGPT Voice film, which placed the tool in ordinary moments like baking and gardening.
The launch comes as Indian brands experiment with microdramas. AJIO released the Instagram-first “Suit Yourself” in February 2026, while Myntra launched “Folks in the Building” in October 2026. Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles and JK Super Cement have partnered with microdrama platform BULLET for longer episodic series.
The distinction is telling: platforms like BULLET suit longer narratives, while Instagram remains the familiar route for brands keeping microdramas within their social ecosystem. Flipkart has gone further, adding a dedicated microdrama section to its shopping app in September 2026.
