Mumbai, October 17, 2026: Ahead of Durga Puja, JSW Dulux has restored Kundu Bari, a nearly 250-year-old heritage Badi in Kolkata, through the third edition of its Let’s Colour initiative. The home is still held by descendants of the original family, who gather there every year to celebrate Pujo.
Time had faded the Badi’s walls, courtyards and Thakur Dalan, the courtyard shrine space where the family welcomes the Durga idol. The restoration used Dulux Dustproof Hi-Sheen Premium Acrylic Exterior Emulsion, giving the structure a rich, lustrous finish. Dustshield Technology keeps surfaces cleaner through festive footfall, anti-algal and anti-fungal properties protect against Kolkata’s humid climate, and 5 Degree Sun Reflect helps keep the walls cooler. Intricate Alpana artwork, a distinctive Bengali art form, has also been incorporated to preserve the Badi’s traditional character.
Rajiv Rajgopal, Joint Managing Director and CEO, JSW Dulux Limited, said the initiative uses colour to create meaningful change. Earlier editions in Jodhpur and Spiti helped communities preserve their identities under extreme weather, and Kolkata continues that journey by restoring a living legacy. Vandana Krishnia, Chief Marketing Officer, said launching just before Durga Puja was especially meaningful, as a Badi is where generations gather to celebrate and preserve traditions.
The campaign film traces Kundu Bari from its faded state to its renewed look during Pujo. Through conversations with the family, it shows how colour has revived memories of childhood celebrations. The restored Thakur Dalan, welcoming the idol and generations of the family, captures the bond between home, heritage and tradition.
