Meta has formally entered the next phase of its monetisation strategy, launching paid subscription plans across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp in a significant move away from its traditionally advertising-dependent revenue model.
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are priced at $3.99 per month each, while WhatsApp Plus is available at $2.99 per month. The plans offer heavy users, creators, and engagement-focused audiences access to personalised features and advanced tools. Instagram Plus introduces expanded Story insights, custom profile styling, enhanced audience controls, anonymous Story previewing, and extended Story windows beyond the standard 24-hour limit. Facebook Plus mirrors several of these social expression features, while WhatsApp Plus centres on messaging customisation through themes, stickers, ringtones, and additional chat controls.
Meta has clarified that these plans are designed to complement – not replace – its existing Meta Verified service, which focuses on account verification, protection, and customer support.
In parallel, Meta is testing a premium umbrella offering called Meta One, targeting creators, businesses, and AI power users. The Meta One Plus plan at $7.99 per month and the Meta One Premium plan at $19.99 per month will deliver enhanced AI capabilities, deeper reasoning tools, and expanded image and video generation features – with initial testing planned in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia.
The broader Meta One suite also includes Essential and Advanced tiers catering to creator discoverability, automated engagement tools, and advanced analytics.
The move signals a wider industry shift as social platforms increasingly blend advertising, subscriptions, and creator commerce into unified digital ecosystems.
