Meta has launched Facebook Verified, a free verification badge for personal profiles aimed at helping users distinguish genuine accounts from fake profiles and AI-generated identities.
The new feature uses a selfie-based identity verification process, where users submit a short video selfie that is matched with their existing profile photos. Available to eligible users aged 18 and above, the verification process is free and takes only a few minutes, provided accounts comply with Meta’s Community Standards.
Unlike the subscription-based Meta Verified service, Facebook Verified is exclusively for personal profiles and will not be available for Pages or Professional Mode accounts.
Initially, the badge will appear across Facebook Marketplace, Dating, Groups and user profiles, with support for Feed posts expected in a later phase.
Meta said the badge confirms that a profile belongs to a verified individual but does not serve as an endorsement or guarantee of trustworthiness. The feature will first roll out in select markets before expanding globally as part of the company’s efforts to improve authenticity and transparency across the platform.
