NDTV has introduced NDTV Micro, a short-form news format built to deliver complete, immersive stories in just a few minutes without losing context or journalistic depth. Drawing inspiration from the rise of micro-dramas, the format applies the principles of concise storytelling to news. Rather than simply compressing television stories, it distils narratives to their essentials while preserving their texture and meaning.

Rahul Kanwal, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, NDTV, said audiences are discovering how much meaning, emotion and information a small window of time can hold, and that a shorter format need not mean a smaller narrative. The aim, he said, is not to reduce the story but to refine it, with greater precision, imagination and force, while keeping the credibility journalism demands.

Vinay Sarawagi, Chief Content Officer, NDTV, noted that digital audiences move constantly between formats, platforms and screens, yet their appetite for a strong story stays the same. Shiv Aroor, Managing Editor, NDTV, drew a line between shortening and distilling: shortening takes things away, while distillation finds what the story cannot do without.

NDTV Micro sits between short clips and long-form journalism. Clips suit quick consumption but can feel fragmented, while long-form offers room for depth. The new format promises a faster viewing experience with enough narrative to tell a complete story. NDTV has begun testing it across history, conflict, major news events and visual explainers, and plans to grow it into a wider stream of original storytelling covering current affairs, geopolitics, defence, science, technology, culture and human experience, with context, substance and credibility at the core.
