OpenAI’s new ChatGPT Voice ad shows AI getting everyday things done

OpenAI has turned to grandmothers to make ChatGPT Voice feel less intimidating. Its latest two-minute film, featuring actors SJ Mendelson, Lavelle Roby and Constance Brenner, places the AI in ordinary moments such as baking cookies, selling pottery, gardening and checking a bank account for duplicate charges.

Rather than pitching AI as futuristic, the film lets outcomes lead. Mendelson explains that the upgraded Voice is no longer just about answering questions but about getting things done, while Brenner asks it to find a duplicate charge and cancel it. The spot follows OpenAI’s recent expansion of Voice, including plugin and app connections and integration with ChatGPT Work.

The everyday-life approach is visible in India too. OpenAI has signed a multi-year partnership with Sachin Tendulkar, launched with a teaser in which he asks ChatGPT to identify him in 10 questions, with content featuring Varun Mayya to follow. A Teachers’ Day film framed ChatGPT as a learning aid rather than a shortcut, highlighting Study Mode and ChatGPT for Teens. A workplace campaign with actor Abhay Verma showed ChatGPT Work fixing a presentation’s pricing error while he raced to a live event.

Rivals are chasing the same space. Google’s Gemini leans on practical use cases, from a global MrBeast spot to a Shah Rukh Khan-led campaign in India backed by outdoor takeovers, including the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Anthropic took a sharper route with its February 2026 Super Bowl ads for Claude, satirising ads inside AI conversations and closing with the line “Ads are coming to AI. But not to Claude.”
